The Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for executing electronic communications for the Annual Giving team including constituent solicitations (some examples include crowdfunding, giving days, email, and online) and stewardship. Digital engagement has grown as a top form of connection and means to build affinity. A successful candidate will be a dynamic thinker and content architect who strategizes relevant, meaningful, and tailored messages for constituents based on analysis of their digital behaviors.
This position is responsible for digital fundraising automation, segmentation, and other data-driven techniques to ensure communications are personalized and timely, and annual giving goals are achieved. The selected candidate will be expected to collaborate on visual designs and identities as well as static (text and images) and multimedia (audio and video) content, adhering to university standards in electronic communications.
The Assistant Director will be expected to lead and coordinate cohesive digital fundraising marketing strategies where emphasis is placed on alumni participation, donor acquisition, retention, renewal, and upgrades.
Lead the effort for the university's crowdfunding program and days of giving.
Design and implement a comprehensive digital solicitation program in support of the university's mission through a variety of vehicles including social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), online giving, e-solicitation, and texting from concept design, message and content development, data coordination, target audience, and vendor relations.
Ensure effective constituent stewardship and donor relations for assigned program areas.
Produce videos and still images in support of the digital solicitation program including scripting, storyboarding, directing, filming, editing and publishing.
Serve as the content manager of the annual giving web pages.
Serve as an annual giving content creator using persuasive and creative storytelling.
Work with internal and external constituents to bring projects to completion. Proactive in anticipating problems that may arise and quickly and independently resolving unforeseen situations along the way.
Follow and monitor trends in digital fundraising, new technologies, and user experience to increase contributions to and engagement with UMSL.
Analyze solicitation results for segment and audience performance. Provide strategy for future programming based on analysis.
Assist in other related areas as assigned, including alumni engagement programs and activities.
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Successful candidate will have strong writing and grammatical skills, particularly an engaging writing style, and demonstrated ability to create correspondence for a variety of voices and audiences. Proficiency in prioritizing and managing diverse, on-going projects, as well as ability to adhere to deadlines. Self-motivated individual with the ability to think strategically and manage multiple projects for a variety of audience sizes with multiple segments.

Ability to maintain an extremely high level of attention to detail. Demonstrates proactive, strategic and detail-oriented approaches and a strong commitment to quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented collaboration, and professionalism. The ability to build relationship and work collaboratively with various university professionals.
Ability to establish rapport and cultivate relations with new and existing donors.
Data savvy with a strong interest in the direct impact of annual giving metrics.
Must use good judgement and treat confidential information with care and discretion.
Appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Proficiency in digital advertising, search engine optimization, boosting Facebook posts, social media mining, and digital analytics tools
Ability to develop trust and strong collaborative working relationships.
Ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive research university setting.
Skilled and experienced user of CRM databases.
Knowledge of annual giving within philanthropy.
Experience in higher education fundraising is a plus.
Experience using Ellucian Advance, iModules, and/or Advizor is a plus.
