The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating high-quality designs for a range of strategic traditional and digital communications materials including but not limited to magazines and complex brochures, web sites, social media and digital advertising, video graphics, giveaways and display materials, special event design, and more. The GD's work will have a significant impact on the major communications strategies for institutional marketing efforts, as well as schools, colleges, and program admissions, major donor prospecting, and global recognition.
The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, negotiate and foster effective relationships with internal partners, colleagues, and vendors, integrate traditional and digital marketing, and effectively manage visual identity requirements. The incumbent is required to keep current with technology advances in marketing communications. This position requires sophisticated design knowledge, digital design experience, and expertise in the development of various types of publications; a minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.
A degree program in visual communications, graphic arts, advertising art, or a related area at a professional graphic arts school or college is required. Proven ability to design and produce complex designs for such projects as brochures, magazines, websites, and exhibits is required. Effective communications with other team members, clients, and vendors are absolutely necessary. Must be knowledgeable about photography and illustration, design/production processes and costs, and be able to produce high quality, cost-effective, aesthetically compelling publications.
Incumbent must have expert skill in electronic art production using Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office on Mac OS. Must have skill with relevant Web-based applications, social media sites, and online communications tools. Incumbent must have experience with web/digital design and be comfortable working collaboratively with Web team developers, project managers, and information architecture experts to design digital assets and Web themes, and to ensure compliance with Web standards and University graphic standards.
Must also understand W3C Web standards and best practices and be comfortable collaborating and communicating through the online tools and resources used in the Office of Communications.
