Advertised Summary Job Description: The Program Manager reports to the Director of the Office of Academic and Research Programs (OARP), in developing, implementing, measuring the performance of, and reporting on student recruitment activities related to graduate programs affiliated with the Earth Institute. These activities may include shaping and managing digital advertising campaigns; identifying and informing prospective students about the graduate programs through meetings and events, and by telephone, email, and social media (e.g. Twitter, Instagram); producing online written, photographic, and video content for websites; and conducting outreach to employers, as well as colleges and universities. In addition, the Program Manager interacts with alumni of these graduate programs to collect employment data, to blog about alumni, and to organize events that help to maintain a strong connection among alumni, the Earth Institute, and the rest of Columbia University. The Program Manager, with the oversight of the Director, also performs all day-to-day budgeting and administrative tasks associated with the academic initiatives of the Office of Academic and Research Programs, including purchasing, processing reimbursement requests, the hiring of student interns, and reporting. The Program Manager may also perform other duties requested by the Director.
The Program Manager works with the staff of graduate programs, Earth Institute colleagues in the departments of Communications, Finance and Administration, and the Office of the Director, partners in schools of the University, advertising vendors, and other external contacts.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or its equivalent and at least two (2) year of professional work experience, some of which must be directly related to the core functions of the position: student recruitment, alumni relations, online advertising, social media campaigns, blogging, or other web content production.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must be an excellent writer, passionate about sustainability and environmental education, creative, enterprising, energetic, and be able to represent the Earth Institute's education programs to a variety of audiences. The incumbent must be able to take direction, demonstrate initiative, value accountability, and take pride in a job well done. The incumbent must also have good presentation skills, be able to give the necessary attention to details, enjoy working in a fast-paced setting, operate effectively under deadline pressure, and work well with colleagues. Working some evenings and weekends is occasionally necessary, as student recruitment and other related events take place after business hours. The willingness to travel up to 25 days per year is also necessary.
Basic knowledge of the following software tools is strongly preferred: Adobe Premiere or equivalent; Adobe Photoshop; Facebook Insights/Publishing Tools; Google Analytics; Mailchimp; and MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications: A graduate degree, especially in a sustainability-related area, is preferred.
