Reporting to the Director of Marketing for Strategic Growth Initiatives at Harvard's Division of Continuing Education (DCE), the Director of Marketing Services serves as a key member of the team responsible for implementing integrated marketing strategies and tactics that support the DCE's program portfolio, including Harvard Summer School, Harvard Extension School, Harvard Professional Development Programs, and Harvard's Institute for Learning in Retirement.
This position is an important part of the marketing team within the Office of Strategic Growth Initiatives, a department of approximately 40 staff, and will play a critical role in achieving ambitious DCE-wide growth goals. A successful candidate will be a well-organized marketing professional with a strong digital media and marketing background, a firm grasp of directing content strategy, experience managing search engine optimization (SEO), and capable of developing and interpreting media an online marketing analytics reports. This role oversees a team of approximately seven, including the content marketing team, the web development team, and the social and email marketing team.
This individual will play a key role in establishing the marketing services organization and streamlining the people, systems, and processes DCE utilizes as the organization scales to increase personalization and marketing automation. The Division is in the process of implementing Salesforce and Marketing Cloud and needs a strategic thinker with direct experience in this area. This person will work with the marketing directors and external strategic partners to allocate an advertising budget through the most effective channels as supported by data.
Establish streamlined process for marketing services and identify/implement resources needed to support strategic content creation and web management. Communicate processes to cross-functional collaborators and consult marketing directors on strategy deployment. Help develop digital, content, and web roles, and clearly outline responsibilities.
Principal content and digital strategist for all DCE websites, leading web content production organization through web design, digital optimization, and social marketing campaigns.
Collaborate with marketing directors to develop overall strategy and identify appropriate assets that supports the overall organizational goals, focusing on creating a positive and consistent user experience (UX).
Stay current on trends in digital advertising, UX/UI/CX, inbound marketing, marketing automation, digital media and content strategy to help position DCE as a leader in the space.
Direct and collaborate with multiple functional groups including digital advertising, brand/product marketing, creative services, social and email operations to ensure we are leveraging digital content to drive the most impact for business
Manage web development team and vendors on page and template development, microsites, landing pages, and testing strategies.
Guide digital marketing team to develop integrated digital strategies and multichannel dissemination plans.
Direct vendors and internal team to develop sound social and SEO strategy that can be monitored, measured, and optimized according to industry best practices.
Analyze the performance of social and SEO campaigns by identifying strategic opportunities and optimizing content to reach organizational goals.
Develops and delivers periodic quantitative and qualitative reports on optimization of the marketing funnel, campaign results, and return on investment for media, social, content and digital marketing campaigns.
Advances the use of Salesforce and Marketing Cloud, leveraging best practices in higher ed marketing automation. Implements event and trigger-based communications and works to establish funnel-based metrics within the CRM and automation tools.
The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities including the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement. For more than a century, Harvard Extension School has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 13,000 students per year in approximately 65 liberal arts and professional fields. More than 650 open enrollments online and classroom courses are offered at affordable prices to our communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 300 courses on the Harvard Campus to 6,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members and Harvard Professional Development Programs offering about 60 two-day, noncredit courses annually.

Bachelor's degree in the Arts or Sciences

Advanced experience in metrics and marketing to adult and online students
Experience developing and implementing strategy for digital marketing
Expert project management and organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfort working with data/analytics
