Oregon State University Ecampus is seeking a Communications Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.
Position Summary
The communications manager is a member of the marketing and enrollment services team within the division. This position reports to the senior writer and communications manager and is a critical member of the content marketing team, supporting marketing and communications strategies that promote the goals of the division and its programs.
The communications manager develops and executes content marketing efforts for a variety of media materials (print, digital, social, electronic) distributed by Oregon State Ecampus for the purposes of recruiting new students. Additionally, this position will develop content and communication assets for all units under the OSU Ecampus umbrella, including the Open Educational Resources Unit, the Ecampus Research Unit, the Corporate Education Unit and a variety of diverse audiences. This person works closely with members of the Ecampus content team, the assistant director of marketing and cross-functionally with all members of the Ecampus marketing and enrollment services team. They also collaborate with various staff members across a variety of teams within the division.
The communications manager will execute content-related tasks on a daily basis including writing, editing, interviewing and background research as well as regularly contributing original content that aligns with the marketing team’s goals. This position develops communication pieces informed by the experiences of prospective and current students, and it will help determine the appropriate content for each unique audience. This position will impact student enrollment in Oregon State’s distance degree programs and courses; student success initiatives; and faculty participation in delivering education online.
The communications manager helps foster and maintain good working relationships with Oregon State University faculty and staff. Position Duties
- Write original content to lead the promotion of online and hybrid degree programs, certificates, microcredentials, course sequences and other offerings, including drafting copy for the web, email communications and social media announcements.
- Regularly audit existing program microsites and related webpages to ensure the information is inclusive and helps prospective and current students along their academic journey.
- Lead copywriting efforts to effectively market specific Ecampus online and hybrid programs in a variety of platforms including digital media, search, social media and print.
- Provide strategic input on ad campaigns related to content strategy in collaboration with the Ecampus content team, marketing managers and others on Ecampus’ marketing and enrollment services team.
- Plan, coordinate and evaluate content marketing efforts that are designed to educate target audiences about the work of internal Ecampus units.
- Tell the stories of Oregon State students who learn online, the faculty members who teach them and the programs and initiatives to which they belong.
- Write articles that provide prospective and current students with actionable information that positively impacts their experience.
- Assess the engagement on written work and make data-informed decisions about future content creation.
- Develop and implement inclusive processes to represent Ecampus’ diverse student, faculty and staff populations.
- Participate in professional development opportunities that are appropriate for this position, including in-person and virtual conferences and workshops.

Work environment: Typical office environment, Ecampus is currently piloting a hybrid work schedule. Tuesday and Thursday are designated in-office days. Employees can work remotely Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or a field relevant to the duties outlined in the position description.
- Evidence of ability to accurately interpret complex issues for public understanding.
- Three years of demonstrated experience in content creation, including copywriting, editing and creating and/or managing digital assets (e.g. writing stories/articles, developing creative briefs, scripting and interviewing).
- Ability to apply brand principles to the development of written materials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interviewing skills.
- Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and ability to adhere to deadlines.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience working in higher education and specifically with online learning.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development in communications, marketing or a related field
- Working knowledge of The Associated Press style guide.
- Two years of project management experience, including demonstrated success and willingness to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience alternating between a variety of target audiences and managing multiple projects at once.
