The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Business Partnership Director for the Business Development & Corporate Relations department. The main responsibility of this position is to identify, establish, and implement relationships with corporations and businesses that advance the mission and programs of the HSUS. The position will manage and cultivate a portfolio of high potential, long-term relationships with new and long-standing HSUS business partners to secure $1M or more annually in institutional support.
This position will be responsible for:
Managing and growing strategic corporate accounts via collaborative initiatives, cause-related marketing, gifts-in-kind, sponsorships, and employee or customer engagement;
Identifying and cultivating new and mutually beneficial corporate relationships that support the mission and the philanthropic needs of the organization and its affiliates;
Working closely with the department’s senior leaders to prospect, cultivate and monetize business relationships for HSUS;
Managing all aspects of the corporate relationships; preparing and managing budget and revenue objectives; negotiating and authoring binding agreements; managing contract renewals; coordinating marketing and communications; tracking and managing portfolios; licensing HSUS Intellectual Property as required; performing quarterly performance reviews on account portfolio and ensuring accuracy of the contacts in the CRM database;
Drafting and writing corporate marketing materials including summaries of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and foundation grant reports for corporate foundations; creating cause marketing and requesting social media outreach, digital content, digital advertising, licensing HSUS intellectual property, and designing collateral as needed;
Coordinating with the Advancement team to ensure corporate outreach efforts are synchronized and cleared with individual and institutional fundraising portfolios;
Responding to occasional inquiries for new business relationships and evaluating for potential viability.
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required;
A minimum of 7 years of direct experience identifying, building, and managing corporate-NGO partnerships, customer and employee engagement campaigns and collaborative NGO initiatives OR at least 7 years of philanthropic NGO fundraising experience with proven success in securing major gifts at the five-figure level required;
Must have solid understanding of business practices related to cause marketing or a demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit major donors and in ways that motivate and excite – past foundation experience is also preferable;
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are required along with ability to tailor messaging to a variety of audiences;
Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task required in order to meet deadlines;
Must have ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
