The Office of Strategic Communication (OSC) seeks to hire an experienced Creative Media Manager-Producer.
The Creative Media Manager-Producer will develop and produce a variety of video stories, features and assignments ranging from news/media relations support to marketing communications, recruitment and outreach, most of which is distributed on web platforms including Iowa Now, the University of Iowa website, YouTube and UI social media channels, and occasionally broadcast TV. This person will both collaborate with other video staff and OSC staff on team-based projects and work independently as needed.
Basic functions, key duties and responsibilities include:
Develop, manage and deliver key video projects and assignments according to expressed parameters including audience, purpose, and message
Perform writing, planning, filming, editing, and post-production duties as projects require
Use media content editing tools such as Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere, and Avid
Publish, organize, share, and promote video content via YouTube, Ustream and other web platforms
Organize media assets and share, tag with metadata, and archive as necessary
PROJECT AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT:
Work closely with OSC staff (directors, writer-editors, social media, photographers, designers, developers) as needed to achieve successful project outcomes
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with campus partners to help achieve key institutional outcomes
Help develop content promotion strategy for YouTube
Accountable for stewardship of facilities, equipment, and systems
Responsible for tracking time management, assets, and project cataloging
Collaborate with video production staff to improve quality and effectiveness of efforts
Effectively hire, train, and supervise student employees
Competencies to be successful in this position include:
Ability to work in and/or lead a creative team
Detailed understanding of video and audio production theory and practice
Experience guiding the work of videography, lighting, editing, post-production etc.
Expertise in applying both complex and simple video acquisition technologies appropriately
Experience with YouTube, digital advertising, and other web video platforms
Ability to translate strategic direction, communication goals, and creative briefs into action
Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Ability to take initiative and responsibility for outcomes when necessary
Proficiency in working with and leading people from diverse backgrounds and job functions
Broad understanding of higher education and of the university and its operating environment
Bachelor's degree in Cinema, Broadcasting, Journalism, or related field (Communication Studies, Film Studies, Television Production, Media Design, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
Extensive (typically at least three years) professional experience creating marketing communications video content for organizations
Expert proficiency in key facets of video production including writing, filming and sound recording, editing and mastering
Must provide link to an edited demo reel (maximum five minutes in length) containing a minimum of three different projects with an explanation of your contribution to each
Experience leading team-based projects
Five years experience producing marketing communications and/or branded video content
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Proficiency with motion typography, compositing and other visual effects using After Effects, Motion or similar software
Experience optimizing videos for social media
Experience building YouTube audiences and maximizing the potential of the platform for brand marketing and reputation building
